$156M Bills DE With 372 Total Tackles and 77 Sacks in 122 Games Signed With Detroit Lions in Proposed Trade
The Detroit Lions, led by quarterback Jared Goff, have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for veteran defensive end Joey Bosa, who most recently played for the Buffalo Bills.
Several analysts believe Detroit could be an ideal destination for the five-time Pro Bowler as the team continues to look for help opposite star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson.
Lions Viewed as Strong Fit for Joey Bosa
According to Nick Shook of NFL Network, Detroit could be one of the best fits for Bosa if the price is reasonable. The Lions are still searching for a reliable pass rusher to complement Hutchinson on the edge.
Bosa earned $13.2 million in 2025, but his production slowed late in the season, which could lower his market value heading into the 2026 offseason. At age 30, he is now viewed as a veteran pass rusher who could still contribute in a rotational role for a playoff contender.
If Bosa accepts a smaller contract than expected, Detroit could emerge as a serious option.
Pairing Joey Bosa With Aidan Hutchinson
The Lions already have a dominant defensive cornerstone in Hutchinson, but analysts frequently mention the need for another edge rusher to balance the defensive front.
According to Billy Heyen of The Sporting News, Bosa could be an ideal complementary piece alongside Hutchinson. Opposing offenses often focus heavily on stopping Detroit’s star defender, and another proven pass rusher could create more pressure opportunities.
Veteran D.J. Wonnum, whom Detroit recently acquired from the Carolina Panthers, adds depth, but adding a player with Bosa’s résumé could elevate the Lions’ defensive line even further.
Joey Bosa’s 2025 Production With Buffalo
During the 2025 season with Buffalo, Bosa remained a productive rotational defender. In 15 games, he recorded:
29 total tackles
5 sacks
9 tackles for loss
12 quarterback hits
47 pressures
5 forced fumbles (league-leading)
5 passes defended
563 defensive snaps
He averaged 36.3 snaps per game, a workload that could fit well within Dan Campbell’s defensive rotation in Detroit.
Contract Projection for the Veteran Pass Rusher
According to Spotrac, Bosa is projected to sign a two-year deal worth $27 million, averaging about $13.7 million per year.
Meanwhile, Mike Payton of A to Z Sports predicts the Lions could land Bosa on a one-year deal worth around $11.5 million.
Over his career, Bosa has already earned more than $156 million, making him one of the most accomplished veteran edge rushers still available.
Patriots Also Considered a Potential Landing Spot
Detroit may not be the only contender. Matt Okada of NFL Network also listed the New England Patriots as a possible destination.
Okada believes Bosa could serve as a veteran rotational defender while the Patriots develop a younger edge rusher, potentially selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Will Detroit Make the Move?
With multiple analysts linking Bosa to Detroit, the Lions remain a team to watch. Pairing the veteran with Hutchinson could give the Lions one of the most dangerous pass-rushing duos in the NFC.
For now, whether Bosa ultimately lands in Detroit or New England remains uncertain — but the Lions clearly remain one of the most intriguing fits.
