Lions running back David Montgomer is set to play in his hometown for the first time since entering the NFL. Sunday’s matchup carries extra weight and emotions for the veteran ball carrier.
The Detroit Lions will square off against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday, aiming to improve their record to 4-1 for the third year straight. It also marks Detroit’s first visit to Cincinnati since 2017.
For Montgomery, it’s a homecoming he has long awaited, returning to Cincinnati after more than six seasons and 92 career contests including playoff games. Speaking with Kay Adams on the Up and Adams Show, he shared what it means to come back.
“I think there’s just going to be a wave of emotions,” Montgomery said. “I’ve never had the chance to play in Cincinnati since leaving, which makes this special. Growing up, that was the team I supported, the hometown team. A lot of my family will be in attendance.”
Montgomery’s return carries even deeper meaning for his loved ones, as his sister will finally see him in action after surviving a life-altering car crash in February 2024.
“This feels truly special because my sister can actually attend,” Montgomery said. “Almost a year, maybe a year and a half ago, on Valentine’s Day, she was in a serious accident. Now she’s paralyzed from the neck down. She can’t move, but this will be the first game she can watch me play in person. I’m beyond thrilled and grateful she’ll be there.”
