Detroit Lions

After battling back from injury, former Lions kicker returns to the Colts for another stint.

Former Detroit Lions kicker Michael Badgley has landed a new opportunity in the NFL, signing with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts announced the signing on social media, marking Badgley’s third stint with the franchise.

Badgley first joined Indianapolis in 2018 as an undrafted free agent but didn’t make the final roster. He returned in 2021, appearing in 12 games that season. His latest comeback follows a setback for the Colts, as kicker Spencer Shrader suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

A familiar name to Detroit Lions fans, Badgley played for the team in 2022 and 2023. He was expected to return this year after re-signing but was sidelined for the entire 2024 season with a torn hamstring.

In his absence, the Lions relied on Jake Bates, a former UFL standout, who not only earned the starting job but also broke the team’s single-season scoring record, surpassing the mark held for 12 years by Jason Hanson.

During his two years in Detroit, Badgley converted 24 of 28 field goals and missed just one extra point.
