The Lions have locked up Aidan Hutchinson with a huge contract extension worth $180 million over the next four years. To celebrate her son’s long-term deal with the team that drafted him three years ago, Hutchinson’s mom marked the occasion with an emotional social media post that quickly melted hearts.
Melissa Hutchinson shared an adorable childhood picture of Aidan dressed as a lion for Halloween. Growing up in Detroit and later starring at the University of Michigan, the image felt like fate fulfilled. The caption revealed the photo was taken on October 31, 2001 — a moment that has come full circle now that Aidan, the No. 2 pick in 2022, is staying home for four more seasons.
Her caption simply read, “Destiny,” followed by a blue heart emoji, showing her excitement that her son will continue to represent Detroit.
Hutchinson has been outstanding since coming back from the serious leg injury he suffered last season. The 25-year-old star has recorded 6.0 sacks and 13 quarterback hits so far, starting all seven games for the Lions.
With the deal, Hutchinson becomes the NFL’s second-highest paid non-quarterback, earning an average of $45 million per year and securing a record $141 million in guaranteed money among non-quarterbacks.
