Commanders player seemingly strikes official amid chaos after teammate hits Amon-Ra St. Brown

During the Sunday game, the Lions scored a touchdown and were preparing for the ensuing extra-point attempt when a major altercation erupted. As the celebration wound down, Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne unexpectedly threw a punch at Lions wide receiver Amon‑Ra St. Brown. The blow landed between the touchdown and the kick, causing immediate reaction from the officials and the broadcast team.

Following the punch, Payne was ejected from the game for unnecessary roughness. At the same time, another Commanders defensive lineman, Javon Kinlaw, was flagged for making contact with an official during the same sequence — though he managed to stay in the game.

Because of the penalty on the team, the Lions elected not to kick the usual extra point and instead went for a two-point conversion — which they converted via a run by David Montgomery, extending their lead in the process. In addition to the ejection, the league confirmed it is reviewing Payne’s actions for potential further discipline and the Lions are monitoring St. Brown’s medical status following the incident.
