Jared Goff hasn’t exactly started the 2025 season on fire for the Detroit Lions, but he’s been steady — avoiding turnovers and doing his best despite a beat-up offensive line. Still, the electric play that once had him in early MVP conversations faded after Detroit’s big Week 2 win over the Bears.
That slump, made worse by a brutal stretch of opposing pass rushes, finally came to an end in Week 10. Against the Washington Commanders, Goff delivered one of his top performances of the year, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns.
A key reason for that turnaround? Head coach Dan Campbell reportedly took over play-calling duties from John Morton — and the results spoke for themselves. Sporting his signature glasses on the sideline, Campbell seemed to unlock a new rhythm for the offense, and Goff clearly approved.
Goff looked far more composed than he did a week prior against Minnesota’s ferocious front. Even with Washington’s injury-depleted defensive line, it was encouraging to see the quarterback find a groove behind improved protection.
Detroit’s passing game also came alive with constant pre-snap movement, creating mismatches and keeping defenders guessing. Jameson Williams thrived in this setup, racking up 119 receiving yards and a touchdown — his best outing in weeks — as Goff got the ball out faster and more decisively.
Given how stagnant the Lions’ offense had been in both the air and ground game lately, it’s not shocking that Campbell decided to shake up the play-calling.
Now, the big question looms: will Campbell keep the reins for Detroit’s upcoming Sunday Night Football showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles, or hand them back to Morton? Either way, it’s a pivotal decision for the Lions’ head coach moving forward.
