Graham Glasgow shares humorous and sincere reasons the Lions believe in Dan Campbell’s play-calling
The Detroit Lions shook things up offensively in their Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders, making a notable shift in how their plays were called.
Head coach Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator John Morton, marking a major change in the team’s offensive approach. The results spoke for themselves — the Lions exploded for 44 points and 546 total yards, cruising to a dominant win over Washington.
When asked about the switch, Campbell said the move was simply about sparking the offense.
“I just wanted to try something different,” Campbell explained, per Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit. “I know what I want and how I want to get there. But this was still a team effort — John Morton and the rest of the staff were giving input throughout the game. I just felt a change in play-caller might help us find some rhythm. Nothing more than that.”
After the game, center Graham Glasgow was asked why the team had confidence in Campbell taking over the headset. He gave a lighthearted — yet respectful — response.
“He’s huge and strong, so if he says something, it’s probably right,” Glasgow joked, according to Richard Silva of The Detroit News. “But seriously, he’s a real football guy. He understands what we need and always seems to have a great feel for the game. He’s an outstanding coach.”
A key factor behind the Lions’ offensive outburst was the improved performance of their offensive line, which rebounded after a tough showing the previous week. Facing a struggling Commanders defense certainly helped, too.
Campbell’s new play-calling duties will face a much tougher challenge next week, though, when the Lions square off against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11.
