Jared Goff’s 2025 season with the Detroit Lions hasn’t been disastrous, but it also hasn’t quite lived up to the flashes of MVP-level play he showed early in the year. While he’s avoided costly turnovers and handled constant pressure fairly well given the team’s banged-up offensive line, the Lions’ offense had clearly lost its spark since their dominant Week 2 victory over the Bears.
That changed in Week 10. Facing the Washington Commanders, Goff delivered one of his best outings of the season—throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns. The catalyst? A major sideline shakeup: Dan Campbell, sporting glasses and a new sense of focus, reportedly took over play-calling duties from John Morton. The result was a smoother, faster-paced offensive rhythm that had both fans and Goff himself fired up.
Goff looked far more composed compared to the previous week’s struggle against Minnesota’s fierce pass rush. Even though Washington’s defensive front was missing key players, Detroit’s offensive line held up well, giving Goff the confidence to execute.
His chemistry with his receivers, especially Jameson Williams, noticeably improved. Williams thrived under the revamped approach, leading the team with 119 receiving yards and a touchdown as Detroit leaned on quicker passes and more motion before the snap.
Given the Lions’ recent offensive stagnation—particularly their difficulty establishing both the run and pass—it’s no shock that Campbell decided to make a change. What remains uncertain, however, is whether he’ll stick with play-calling duties for Detroit’s massive upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
