Jahmyr Gibbs and Jared Goff fuel Lions’ dominant win over Commanders

The Detroit Lions dominated their trip to Washington, cruising to a convincing 44–22 victory over a severely depleted Commanders squad.

Quarterback Jared Goff was in complete control from start to finish, connecting on 25 of 33 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns without turning the ball over before being pulled late in the fourth quarter. His top target, Jameson Williams, had a breakout performance—hauling in six receptions for 119 yards and a score. Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs kept the ground game rolling, rushing 15 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Simply put, Detroit’s offense couldn’t be stopped.

The Lions found the end zone on every single drive until their final possession, when they ran out the clock with kneel-downs.

On the other side, Marcus Mariota filled in for the injured Jayden Daniels and put up a respectable effort, completing 16 of 22 throws for 213 yards and two touchdowns, avoiding any turnovers. Still, the Commanders’ offense sputtered when it mattered most and couldn’t keep up with Detroit’s relentless pace.

This matchup served as a rematch of last season’s playoff clash, when Washington stunned the top-seeded Lions in Detroit. This time, however, the tables were completely turned. The Lions improved to 6–3, firmly reestablishing themselves as postseason contenders, while the Commanders dropped to 3–7, their playoff hopes fading fast.
