Detroit Lions Reveal Big News About Star Linebacker

The Detroit Lions are set to get a major boost on defense just in time for Sunday’s game.

On Tuesday, the team announced that linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez has been activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, making him eligible to play against the New York Giants at Ford Field.

Rodriguez, 26, hasn’t taken the field since suffering a torn ACL in last year’s Thanksgiving matchup against the Chicago Bears. That injury ended his 2024 season prematurely and kept him sidelined for much of 2025 while he focused on rehabilitation.

Many anticipated that Detroit might bring him back sooner, particularly given the team’s struggles with injuries across the defensive unit. His return, however, has now been officially confirmed.

Known for his speed, football IQ, and relentless energy, Rodriguez may not immediately handle a full defensive workload. Still, his presence adds much-needed depth, versatility, and value on special teams—a crucial boost for a Lions squad in need of healthy contributors.

The coaching staff can now decide how quickly to integrate him back into the lineup, but simply having him available is a positive development.

With Rodriguez back, the Lions strengthen their roster heading into Week 12.
