Dan Campbell optimistic key Lions defender could be back for Week 12.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell believes his defense could get an important boost in Week 12 as one of their top cornerbacks may be ready to return for the matchup with the Giants.

Following Detroit’s loss to the Eagles, most of the criticism centered on the offense, though the defense actually delivered a solid performance. Campbell told reporters he’s optimistic that injured cornerback D.J. Reed might finally be back on the field this week, per Lions reporter Colton Pouncy.

According to Pouncy’s post on X, Campbell noted that the team will have a better sense of Reed’s availability after evaluating him in practices on Thursday and Friday.

Reed has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4 against the Browns, causing him to miss six straight games. His absence has been especially frustrating given he signed a three-year deal to help anchor Detroit’s secondary. Before going down, Reed had recorded 14 solo tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. After three seasons with the Jets, he was expected to be a central piece of the Lions’ revamped defense.
