In the aftermath of Detroit’s 16–9 defeat to Philadelphia, the NFL levied fines on two Lions players for separate incidents during the game. Wide receiver Jameson Williams was penalized for his end-zone celebration: after catching a pass and sprinting across the field, he leapt and hugged the base of the goalpost stanchion.
That action drew an unsportsmanlike conduct flag and, according to the league, was classified under “use of prop,” resulting in a $14,491 fine.
Unfortunately for Detroit, that 15-yard penalty pushed back the point-after try, and kicker Jake Bates missed it — meaning Williams’ celebration arguably cost the team a point. Williams later said he didn’t realize hugging the goalpost would draw a penalty.
Meanwhile, safety Brian Branch was fined $11,159 for unnecessary roughness, stemming from a helmet-to-helmet hit on the Eagles’ Jahan Dotson. The league flagged that collision as dangerous, and Branch was officially punished for it.
Williams finished the game as Detroit’s leading receiver, hauling in four catches for 88 yards.
