Jameson Williams hit with a $14,491 fine for sliding down the goalpost

Detroit wide receiver Jameson Williams scored the Lions’ lone touchdown in their Week 11 matchup against Philadelphia — and ended up paying for it twice. His second-quarter 40-yard catch-and-run briefly energized an offense that had been bottled up by the Eagles, but the celebration that followed drew more attention than the score itself.

After crossing the goal line, Williams hopped onto the goalpost, clung to it, and slid down. Officials immediately hit him with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Because of the added yardage, Jake Bates was forced to attempt a 48-yard extra point, which he pushed wide.

The NFL issued its weekly round of discipline the following Saturday, and according to Tom Pelissero, Williams was fined $14,491 for the celebration.

Williams’ growing list of penalty fines

This isn’t unfamiliar territory for the speedy fourth-year wideout. Williams has accumulated several league fines throughout his career, most tied to over-the-top celebrations or taunting flags.

In last year’s Divisional Round defeat to Washington, he was docked $25,325 for a celebration that went well beyond the league’s “three-pump” limit. Earlier that same season, he received a $19,697 penalty for mimicking a Marshawn Lynch tribute after a long touchdown against Jacksonville. And in Week 1 of the 2025 campaign, Williams paid $11,593 for taunting during Detroit’s loss to Green Bay.

Despite these occasional setbacks, Williams remains a crucial piece of Detroit’s offense. The former first-round pick signed a three-year, $83 million extension before the season and has taken on an even larger role with Dan Campbell handling play-calling duties.

Although Jared Goff struggled against Philadelphia’s intense pass rush, Williams still produced the Lions’ only touchdown of the game. He now has four scores in his past five outings, continuing his upward trend.
