Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur channeled some Dan Campbell–style boldness during Green Bay’s Thanksgiving matchup, helping secure a key 31–24 win over the Detroit Lions.
Playing on the road Thursday afternoon, the Packers controlled most of the contest but still needed a late conversion to shut the door. Detroit was poised to get the ball back with a chance to tie, but Green Bay faced a crucial fourth down near midfield in the closing minutes. Rather than punt, LaFleur opted to roll the dice. Jordan Love, who had been outstanding throughout the game, fired a tight-window throw to Dontayvion Wicks to move the chains and effectively seal the victory.
The aggressive decision echoed the trademark style of Lions coach Dan Campbell, who is widely known for his fearless approach on fourth down. Under different circumstances, he might have admired LaFleur’s nerve—if it hadn’t come at his team’s expense.
With the win, Green Bay improves to 8–3–1 and remains firmly in the hunt for the NFC North title, especially with the Chicago Bears’ previously soft schedule set to toughen considerably in the coming weeks.
