Dak Prescott explodes at Cowboys coach over controversial play call in defeat to Lions
Dak Prescott erupted in anger on the sideline after a controversial play-calling decision during the Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.
With Dallas trailing 17–6 late in the second quarter, Prescott had pieced together a promising drive—only for a string of penalties to push the Cowboys back to a daunting 2nd-and-25. He responded with a short completion to CeeDee Lamb and then found tight end Jake Ferguson for 11 yards, setting up a manageable 4th-and-4 at the Detroit 37.
Instead of keeping the offense on the field, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer opted to go for a field goal. Prescott was visibly livid, shouting toward the sideline after the decision to kick rather than attempt to convert.
Brandon Aubrey drilled the field goal, but the conservative call left Detroit enough time to tack on three more points before halftime, sending Dallas into the break down 20–9.
The Cowboys mounted a comeback in the second half, rebounding from an early interception to score on three straight possessions and pull within 30–27. But the rally fizzled. Dallas managed only one more field goal while the Lions pulled away with back-to-back touchdowns, sealing a 44–30 victory.
Prescott finished with solid yardage—31 completions for 376 yards—outpacing Lions quarterback Jared Goff. But while Goff avoided mistakes, Prescott threw two interceptions that loomed large in the loss.
The defeat drops Dallas to 6-6-1, leaving their postseason hopes in a precarious spot as they prepare to host the Minnesota Vikings next week.
