The Detroit Lions may be celebrating their crucial Week 14 victory over the Cowboys, but two starters are paying the price for what happened one game earlier.
On Saturday, the NFL issued fines to linebacker Jack Campbell and wide receiver Jameson Williams for penalties committed during Detroit’s Thanksgiving loss to the Packers in Week 13.
Campbell was fined $11,593 for an unnecessary roughness call stemming from a facemask with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. At the time, Green Bay led 24–21 and faced a third-and-1 at the Lions’ 6-yard line. Although Jordan Love’s pass fell incomplete, Campbell’s grab of tight end Josh Whyle’s facemask gave the Packers a first down at the 3. Green Bay cashed in moments later when Love hit Dontayvion Wicks for a short touchdown, pushing the lead to 31–21.
Williams received a $17,391 fine for taunting early in the fourth quarter. Facing third-and-3 near the Packers’ 35, Jared Goff found him for a 7-yard pickup against Evan Williams. After the catch, Williams spun the ball at the defender’s feet, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct flag and eventually the league fine.
This is Williams’s fourth fine of the season—and his third for taunting, with two of those incidents occurring against Green Bay. Campbell has now been fined three times this year, including back-to-back weeks for facemask penalties.
The Packers ultimately beat the Lions 31–24, completing a season swe
