The Rams will once again rely on one of their most impressive young defenders as they prepare for the Detroit Lions in Week 15.
Los Angeles has remained among the NFL’s top teams thanks to a strong blend of established veterans and emerging talent. In their recent blowout win over the Arizona Cardinals, several of their younger players delivered standout performances that hinted at their long-term potential.
While Blake Corum grabbed plenty of attention with a breakout showing, he wasn’t the only rookie to shine. Josaiah Stewart turned in one of the best games of his young career, proving why the Rams were confident in investing a third-round pick in him. With Detroit on deck—and linebackers expected to play a major role—Stewart is poised to be a crucial piece again.
Jim Wyman of Pro Football Focus highlighted Stewart in his Week 14 rookie rankings, noting his impressive 83.5 PFF grade. With Bryon Young still uncertain for Week 15, Stewart’s ability to fill that void could be vital for the Rams’ defense.
What really elevates Stewart’s value is his versatility. Lining up next to players like Poona Ford and Jared Verse gives him a noticeable advantage; their ability to draw blockers often leaves Stewart with favorable one-on-one matchups. Should Young remain sidelined, the Rams may shift Stewart into a more linebacker-focused role—something he has shown he can handle. His burst when attacking downhill, combined with his competence in coverage, makes him adaptable in multiple defensive looks.
Detroit’s offense leans heavily on its run game, and with the stakes extremely high for them, they’ll test the Rams on the ground throughout the matchup. That puts extra pressure on Stewart to diagnose plays quickly, attack gaps with force, and stay disciplined against the Lions’ shifty ball carriers.
If the Rams are going to come away with another win, Stewart will almost certainly need to deliver another big-time performance.
