Nearly five years after a headline-making trade sent quarterback Jared Goff from the Los Angeles Rams to the Detroit Lions, his wife, Christen Harper Goff, says any lingering tension tied to that move has long faded.

Speaking exclusively with Us Weekly while partnering with Maytag to promote its Pet Pro Washer, Christen, 32, shared that the chapter feels firmly closed. She explained that she’s now spent more time living in Detroit than Jared ever did playing for the Rams, and that his career with the Lions has surpassed his tenure in Los Angeles. Because of that, the emotions surrounding the trade no longer carry the same weight they once did.

The Lions are set to face the Rams in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 14, marking the fourth matchup between the two teams since the trade. Detroit currently holds a 2–1 record in those games, including a narrow 24–23 win during the NFC Wild Card round in January 2024.

According to Christen, who grew up in Valencia, California, the upcoming game feels routine rather than personal. While returning to Los Angeles allows her family and friends to attend and support them, she said the rivalry no longer feels emotionally charged.

This past NFL offseason was especially eventful for the couple, as they welcomed their first child, daughter Romy, in July.

Christen described becoming a mother as an overwhelmingly positive experience, noting that life before her daughter now feels almost unimaginable. While she acknowledged that parenting comes with difficult moments, she said Romy’s smiles and laughter make everything worthwhile.

Because the Lions began training camp just weeks after Romy’s birth, Christen found herself handling much of the early parenting responsibilities on her own. She explained that Jared’s demanding schedule kept him busy during their daughter’s first several months, but his bond with Romy is unmistakable whenever he’s home. Christen joked that Romy lights up instantly around her dad, and she finds watching their relationship develop incredibly touching. She’s especially looking forward to the offseason, when Jared will be able to spend more uninterrupted time with their daughter.

Christen also shared that bringing Romy into the football environment has been a joy, calling her the perfect companion on game days.

Between caring for a newborn and managing life with the family’s large golden retriever mix, Quincy, Christen said household help is essential.
