Brother of NFL standout detained in alleged theft of NBA player’s vehicle

A relative of Los Angeles Rams standout receiver Puka Nacua was taken into custody this week in connection with a reported vehicle theft in Southern California.

ESPN reported that Samson Nacua, Puka’s brother, was arrested along with 27-year-old Trey Rose after authorities linked them to the alleged theft of a BMW belonging to Los Angeles Lakers forward Adou Thiero. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified both men as suspects.

According to NBC4 Los Angeles, deputies responded to the One Hotel in West Hollywood after the stolen vehicle’s tracking system led them to the location. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the property, which reportedly helped them determine who was involved.

Despite the arrest, both Rose and Samson Nacua were released under California Penal Code 849(b), a statute used when law enforcement determines there is not enough evidence at that time to formally file criminal charges.

Samson Nacua has a football background of his own. A wide receiver, he played college football at Utah and BYU and later participated in NFL training camps with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. More recently, he played for the Michigan Panthers in the UFL, where he was suspended for one game earlier this year after an incident involving a fan following a loss.

Meanwhile, Puka Nacua has emerged as one of the league’s elite receivers. The Rams star has recorded 102 receptions, 1,367 receiving yards, and six touchdowns this season, helping lead Los Angeles to the top of its division.
