Kennedy claimed the confrontation began after he addressed Metcalf using his full legal name rather than “DK,” which he says upset the receiver. According to Kennedy, Metcalf then grabbed him and tore his shirt. Stadium officials spoke with Kennedy afterward, but he was not removed from the game.

Possible reasons for the altercation
There is no official confirmation explaining why Metcalf reacted the way he did. Kennedy told the Detroit Free Press that calling Metcalf by his given name triggered the exchange.

However, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported that the two may have prior history. According to league sources, Metcalf allegedly encountered Kennedy during a game last season while Metcalf was still playing for the Seattle Seahawks and had previously alerted stadium security about him.

Former NFL receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson stated during a livestream with Shannon Sharpe that he had heard Kennedy used a racial slur and made offensive remarks about Metcalf’s mother. These allegations have not been verified.
