For the second straight week, Detroit has elevated tight end Giovanni Ricci and offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun to the active roster on a temporary basis. Both players will be available when the Lions take the field against Minnesota.
Eguakun earned his first NFL start last Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, lining up at center in place of veteran Graham Glasgow, who was sidelined with a knee issue.
The undrafted rookie handled the assignment well, drawing praise from head coach Dan Campbell for his effort and composure.
Campbell noted that Eguakun showed strong competitiveness and energy, adding that his performance in his first professional appearance was encouraging.
Signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2024, Eguakun has spent much of the season moving between the practice squad and the active roster. With Glasgow no longer listed on the injury report, Eguakun could shift back into a backup role. However, Detroit Football Network’s Justin Rogers has indicated that the Lions may still consider starting Eguakun at center.
With Trystan Colon and Christian Mahogany both uncertain for availability, Detroit will have flexibility along the interior offensive line regardless of which player starts.
Ricci, meanwhile, has been part of the Lions’ tight end rotation following injuries to Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright, both of whom were placed on injured reserve. Over the past two games, Ricci logged 12 offensive snaps against the Rams and 14 more against the Steelers.
This elevation marks the final allowable practice squad call-up for both Ricci and Eguakun during the regular season. If the Lions want either player available for next week’s finale against the Chicago Bears, they will need to be added to the 53-man roste
