A Detroit Lions supporter at the center of a viral sideline confrontation has spoken out publicly, aiming to address what he describes as false and harmful accusations surrounding the incident.

Ryan Kennedy, the fan involved in a heated exchange with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf during a recent game, held a press conference on Friday to respond to widespread speculation about what occurred. Kennedy said the aftermath of the incident has been deeply troubling, claiming that rumors suggesting he used racist language have led to threats against him and his family.

Kennedy strongly denied those claims, insisting he never directed any racial slurs or hateful remarks at Metcalf. He emphasized that such behavior goes against everything he stands for, noting that he has been a Lions season ticket holder for 15 years without any prior issues.
“I’m not someone who loses my temper easily,” Kennedy explained. “But there are two things that cross a line for me immediately — cruelty to animals and racism.

I want to be absolutely clear: I did not say anything racist or hateful at that game, and I never have.”
During his remarks, Kennedy directly addressed Metcalf — whose given name is DeKaylin — and asked him to publicly confirm that no racial language was involved in their interaction. Kennedy said doing so could help stop the harassment his family has been experiencing.

“DeKaylin, if you happen to see this, I’d really appreciate you setting the record straight,” he said. “My family is receiving threats, and that’s not right. I don’t believe you intended for that to happen. And regardless, I forgive you. That’s all I wanted to say. Go Lions.”

The incident, which was captured on video during the Lions–Steelers game, quickly spread online after Metcalf appeared to swing in Kennedy’s direction near the seating area.

The moment sparked national attention and debate, though the NFL has not released any new statements addressing the situation since then.
According to Kennedy, his focus now is simply to end the controversy and ensure the safety and well-being of his family moving forward.
