“Lions end season with emotional locker room speech focused on never repeating this outcome

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell once again showed how deeply invested he is in his team, delivering an emotional postgame speech after the season finale.
Detroit wrapped up the 2025 season with a hard-fought 19–16 win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Week 18, facing off against former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

The victory came at a meaningful time, as the Lions had dropped three straight games leading into the finale, including a Christmas loss to the Minnesota Vikings that officially ended their playoff hopes. Despite having nothing tangible on the line, Detroit responded with one of its most complete performances in weeks.

Following the win, Campbell addressed his players in the locker room, clearly moved by their effort and commitment. He emphasized how proud he was of the group for competing with intensity and pride, even after postseason aspirations were gone. Campbell highlighted the character of the locker room, noting how the team’s core continued to fight for one another and play with respect and professionalism.

He also acknowledged how close the season came to taking a different path, pointing out that just a single play in any of several games could have changed their playoff fate. Still, Campbell stressed that the team earned Sunday’s win by showing up and executing when it mattered.
As he often does, Campbell finished by handing out a game ball.

This time, the honor went to kicker Jake Bates, who converted four of five field goal attempts. His most important kick came from 42 yards out as time expired, sealing the victory.
Bates thanked his teammates, expressing gratitude for their support throughout the season and reaffirming his commitment to continue working and competing for the team every day.

Campbell closed his remarks by once again telling the players how much they meant to him, making it clear that while the season didn’t end the way everyone hoped, he valued their effort, resilience, and dedication.
Quarterback Jared Goff then gathered the team for a final huddle.

Aware that the group would not look the same next season, he thanked his teammates for giving everything they had one last time. Looking ahead, Goff challenged those who would return in the spring to make sure the disappointment of this season would never be repeated.
