The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for a challenging divisional-round playoff matchup against the Chicago Bears, set for Sunday night at Soldier Field. Forecasts call for frigid temperatures and strong winds, adding another layer of difficulty to an already high-stakes postseason contest.
Los Angeles advanced after defeating the Carolina Panthers in the wild-card round, riding a late-season surge led by quarterback Matthew Stafford. Despite dealing with a sprained index finger on his throwing hand, Stafford was a full participant in practice throughout the week and received clearance to play. Head coach Sean McVay and several teammates highlighted Stafford’s durability and leadership.
The Rams will regain guard Kevin Dotson for the matchup, while tackle Rob Havenstein remains sidelined on injured reserve. Veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is available as the backup option should Stafford be unable to finish the game.
Stafford delivered an impressive campaign, posting strong statistical production and earning first-team All-Pro recognition. Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, he said his finger issue has completely resolved, adding that he enjoys the feel of outdoor football in cold conditions and is prepared to adjust to whatever weather awaits.
Off the field, Stafford’s wife Kelly has been a constant presence this season. She attended every regular-season game and frequently brought their daughters along. Reflecting on the milestone, she shared on Instagram that she never imagined she would attend every game during his 17th NFL season.
Kelly also chose to pause her podcast to prioritize her family and personal well-being. Over the years, she has consistently defended and supported her husband amid both praise and criticism, once urging fans online to simply allow him to enjoy his success.
Matthew and Kelly Stafford met while attending the University of Georgia and were married in 2015. They are parents to four daughters—twins Sawyer and Chandler, along with Hunter and Tyler. Kelly’s recovery from a non-cancerous brain tumor discovered in 2019 has been a defining chapter in their family’s journey.
Stafford has often credited his family for their role in his career, previously stating that their support has been essential to his success.
A victory over Chicago would send the Rams to the NFC Championship Game. Elsewhere in the playoffs, the Denver Broncos edged the Buffalo Bills 33–30 in overtime in an AFC divisional showdown. The winner of the Rams-Bears matchup will face the Seattle Seahawks, who dominated the San Francisco 49ers 41–6 on Saturday.
