Donald Trump criticises Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance, calling it an insult to the nation
Donald Trump has harshly criticised Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, branding the performance “a slap in the face” to the United States.
Posting on his Truth Social account, the U.S. President described the Puerto Rican superstar’s appearance as “absolutely awful,” calling it one of the worst halftime shows he had ever seen. Trump objected to both the choreography and the decision to perform mostly in Spanish, noting that Bad Bunny became the first halftime headliner to do so.
According to Trump, the show failed to reflect what he called American values. He argued that viewers could not understand the lyrics, condemned the dancing as inappropriate for children, and claimed the performance did not represent success, creativity, or excellence. He also linked his criticism to broader claims about America’s economic achievements, citing record stock market and retirement account numbers.
Trump went on to say the halftime show lacked inspiration and predicted that mainstream media outlets would praise it regardless, accusing them of being disconnected from what he described as the “real world.”
Despite Trump’s comments, Bad Bunny received widespread support from fellow artists. Spanish singer Rosalía congratulated him on Instagram, calling him a legend, while rapper and singer Doechii praised the performance on X, describing it as historic.
Country artist Kacey Musgraves also weighed in, contrasting Bad Bunny’s show with the conservative alternative broadcast by Turning Point USA, which featured Kid Rock. She remarked that Bad Bunny’s performance made her feel more patriotic than anything Kid Rock had done.
In addition, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira—who previously shared the Super Bowl stage with Bad Bunny during their 2020 halftime show—sent him messages of support ahead of his performance.
