Jets Linked to Former Lions Players With Ties to Aaron Glenn

The New York Jets enter the offseason with significant financial flexibility, holding more than $83 million in available cap space, and there’s a clear expectation that they’ll be proactive in improving the roster.

Despite a turbulent year on the sidelines, the Jets appear to have landed in a better place with their coaching situation. Retaining Aaron Glenn, even after a disappointing 2025 campaign, may prove beneficial in the long run. As a rookie head coach, Glenn was still finding his footing, and another reset could have perpetuated instability. Instead, New York opted for continuity while reshaping the rest of the staff, including the addition of veteran coach Frank Reich, a move that has been widely viewed as encouraging.

With the Super Bowl now in the rearview mirror, attention has turned fully to the offseason. During an appearance on Jets Final Drive, The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt discussed potential Jets strategies with SNY’s Connor Hughes. Rosenblatt indicated that the team plans to pursue players familiar with Glenn’s approach and leadership style. Two names he highlighted were linebacker Alex Anzalone and defensive back Amik Robertson, both of whom played under Glenn in Detroit.

Rosenblatt explained that bringing in players who already understand Glenn’s expectations could help establish the culture he wants to build in New York. Anzalone was described as an obvious fit, while Robertson—primarily a nickel corner—was praised for his physical, gritty style of play and strong buy-in to Glenn’s system. Rosenblatt noted that Glenn and Robertson had a close working relationship during their time together with the Lions.

While the Jets have young talent such as Jarvis Brownlee, Rosenblatt suggested that the team shouldn’t hesitate to upgrade the position if the opportunity arises, particularly with a player who already aligns with Glenn’s vision. According to what Rosenblatt has heard, the Jets are actively targeting former Glenn players in free agency.

Though the offseason is still in its early stages, speculation is already building. Anzalone and Robertson, both expected to hit the open market, are two names worth watching as New York looks to reshape its roster.
