The Detroit Lions head into the offseason with several important roster choices looming, particularly regarding veteran players set to hit the open market.
One name drawing attention is cornerback Amik Robertson, who is preparing to test free agency after spending two seasons in Detroit. With former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn now connected to the New York Jets, speculation is growing that Robertson could reunite with his former coach.
Two reporters who cover the Jets recently pointed to Robertson as a potential target for New York.
SNY’s Connor Hughes suggested the 27-year-old defender would mesh well with Glenn’s defensive philosophy. While Robertson might not be considered a splash signing, Hughes noted that he fits the type of competitor Glenn values. He compared Robertson to Brandon Stephens, a player Glenn previously helped develop into a reliable contributor.
Hughes also referenced Robertson’s strong 2024 campaign, during which he earned a 63.3 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus. With the Jets viewing Stephens as a possible starter and maintaining confidence in Jarvis Brownlee’s development in the slot, Robertson could offer valuable depth and versatility as the team looks to strengthen its secondary, potentially through both free agency and the draft.
The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt echoed similar sentiments on a recent episode of “Jets Final Drive.” He highlighted Robertson as a free agent worth monitoring, emphasizing the strong relationship between the cornerback and Glenn.
Rosenblatt described Robertson as a physical, high-effort player who fully embraces Glenn’s coaching style. While he acknowledged Brownlee’s potential, he cautioned against locking in any starting job without competition — especially if a player familiar with Glenn’s defensive expectations becomes available.
Robertson entered the NFL in 2020 as a fourth-round selection by the Las Vegas Raiders. After appearing in 86 games with 35 starts over his career, he signed with Detroit in 2024 and delivered solid production in the Lions’ secondary.
Across his career, Robertson has totaled five interceptions, seven forced fumbles, 10 tackles for loss, 35 passes defended, two sacks, 213 tackles, and one fumble recovery.
With free agency approaching, his connection to Glenn could make the Jets a team to watch.
