The NFL trade deadline on Nov. 5 is approaching, and the Detroit Lions still have the opportunity to enhance their Super Bowl prospects. One option for the Lions could be to acquire a veteran pass rusher to help fill the gap left by Aidan Hutchinson.
Athlon Sports’ Chris Licata compiled a list of “dream” trade scenarios for various teams, including the Lions. Detroit fans might be excited about the prospect of landing a three-time Pro Bowl talent, though the likelihood is low.
However, with the Las Vegas Raiders struggling at 2-7 ahead of the deadline, rumors are swirling about potential trades, including superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
“Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis made it clear that his star pass rusher isn’t going anywhere,” Licata wrote on Nov. 3. “But talk is cheap. A temporary trade for Za’Darius Smith seems sensible for the Lions before the deadline.
“This is about 2025 and beyond. Even when Aidan Hutchinson returns next season, the depth behind him remains a concern.”
Crosby’s four-year, $94 million deal runs through the 2026 season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that the Raiders have no intention of trading Crosby, but if they changed their stance, what would a potential deal cost the Lions?
As Athlon Sports previously mentioned, former Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff estimated that Crosby would likely require at least two future first-round picks and possibly a third-rounder.
Could the Lions be willing to make such a significant offer to persuade the Raiders? When Hutchinson comes back, it would be hard to imagine a more formidable pass-rushing duo than Hutchinson and Crosby.
