Aaron Rodgers Voices Disappointment Over Jets’ Trade to Steelers

Jets QB Reflects on Williams’ Journey and Impact Ahead of Transition

In a striking coincidence, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was on live air with The Pat McAfee Show as news broke of the trade sending wide receiver Mike Williams to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This rare moment provided an opportunity for Rodgers to share his thoughts on losing a key target.

Acknowledging Williams’ Challenges

Rodgers spoke highly of Williams, noting his work ethic following a tough ACL injury sustained last year with the Los Angeles Chargers. “Mike’s a quiet guy, just kind of goes about his business,” Rodgers remarked. He praised Williams for his dedication during the offseason, stating, “He worked his ass off all offseason, wasn’t around for a lot of training camp, he was working on the side.”

Despite showing promise early in the season, Williams struggled to find his footing in New York, managing only 12 receptions for 166 yards and no touchdowns in nine games. His role diminished further with the trade of Davante Adams and a lack of targets, leading to a disappointing stint with the Jets.

Opportunity for a Fresh Start

Rodgers expressed optimism about Williams’ future with the Steelers, suggesting that the trade could open doors for him. “If this gives Mike more opportunities, that’s awesome,” he said. The Jets’ quarterback believes that joining Pittsburgh might rejuvenate Williams’ career, stating, “Sometimes a change of scenery is great for certain guys.”

With the Steelers, Williams is expected to step into a No. 2 receiver role, filling a gap left by Diontae Johnson’s earlier trade. Rodgers underscored Williams’ potential impact on Pittsburgh’s locker room culture: “Mike’s a good guy. He’ll be good in that locker room,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of veteran leadership.

As Williams prepares for his new chapter with the Steelers, he will look to make an immediate impact against the Washington Commanders, hoping to revitalize his career in Pittsburgh’s offense.
