The NFL trade deadline has passed, and the Dallas Cowboys made a notable move by acquiring wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers. They also parted ways with defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and cornerback Andrew Booth.
While these decisions were disappointing for Cowboys fans, they were expected under Jerry Jones and the team’s leadership.
However, it seems the Cowboys aren’t finished with their roster changes. The team has decided to re-sign Booth, who was released just earlier this week, to their practice squad.
This move is understandable given the team’s ongoing issues with their defensive backfield.
Cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs have both been battling injuries, and backup corner Amani Oruwariye was placed on injured reserve last week.
Booth will serve as additional depth for the cornerback group, which includes Bland, Diggs, Caelen Carson, and C.J. Goodwin.
Booth has seen limited action this season, appearing in three games between Weeks 4 and 6. During those appearances, he played 38 defensive snaps and 25 on special teams.
His performance was underwhelming, allowing three receptions on three targets and posting a passer rating of 118.8 against him.
Dallas acquired Booth in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, sending cornerback Nahshon Wright in return.
Wright, a former third-round pick, has yet to see the field for the Vikings. Booth, drafted 42nd overall in 2022, is running out of time to prove himself.
Whether he gets another chance to be promoted to the active roster and make an impact remains uncertain, but the Cowboys’ injury issues could give him another opportunity to contribute.
