The Detroit Lions may lose a Super Bowl-winning starter to the Las Vegas Raiders, according to an NFL insider.
In the 2024 offseason, the Lions made several moves, including signing veteran cornerback Carlton Davis, who helped the Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV. Alongside Davis, the Lions also brought in Terrion Arnold and Amik Robertson to strengthen their secondary. Through eight games, Davis has allowed completions on 60.3% of passes thrown his way and has posted a passer rating of 89.1.
Davis is set to become a free agent next year, and Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department predicts he could be headed to the Raiders in the 2025 free agency.
Detroit Lions Could See Key Defensive Back Depart in Free Agency In a November 4 feature, NFL analyst Matt Holder of Bleacher Report analyzed the current struggles facing the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Vegas has dropped five straight games, with limited optimism going forward,” Holder noted. “Having traded Davante Adams earlier this season, they’ll likely field offers for several veterans as the trade deadline approaches.”
Holder recommended the Raiders target Davis in the 2025 free agency period.
“The Raiders had hoped Jack Jones would carry over his late-season success, but that hasn’t panned out,” he said. “Jakorian Bennett hasn’t proven himself as a reliable starter, either. Nate Hobbs is their top cover man but is set to become a free agent.”
He continued, “The Raiders need an experienced starting corner to anchor the position. Davis has delivered steady play for the Lions this season, and his experience could be exactly what the Raiders need.”
Whether Davis ultimately joins forces with Maxx Crosby in Las Vegas remains to be seen.
Potential Cornerback Options for the Lions As the Lions look to 2025 free agency, Holder suggests cornerback Kristian Fulton from the Los Angeles Chargers as a possible addition.
Holder also praised Detroit’s impressive season so far, with six straight wins placing them atop the NFC North at 7-1.
“It’s clear the Lions could benefit from additional cornerback support,” he wrote. “While Terrion Arnold has shown promise, he’s struggled early in his career, and both Carlton Davis and Emmanuel Moseley are pending free agents.”
Holder further explained his endorsement of Fulton, saying, “The front office should consider the free-agent market, and Fulton is an attractive candidate, as he’s revitalized his career in Los Angeles.
So far, the 26-year-old has allowed just nine receptions and holds a passer rating of 68.8 when targeted, with a solid 79.1 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus.”
