Why Jared Goff Is Supporting Michigan QB Davis Warren So Strongly

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff shares a special bond with Michigan QB Davis Warren, a connection that began when Warren was a young boy attending the Elite 11 quarterback camp, where Goff was participating. Their paths have crossed several times, and now Goff is supporting Warren as he makes his way through Michigan football.

“I first met Davis years ago when I was in high school,” Goff said, as quoted by SI. “He was younger and at the Elite 11 camp. I saw him again later when he was in high school and learned more about his journey. He faced challenges but kept working hard.”

Warren’s journey to Michigan wasn’t easy—he took a year off to battle leukemia, but after overcoming his health struggles, he went to prep school and ultimately found his way to Michigan. Goff, already impressed by Warren’s ability, remembers a moment when they were both training with the same coach.

“I was throwing with him years ago and thought, ‘That kid’s good. Who’s that?’” Goff recalled. “They told me, ‘He missed a year because of leukemia and then went to prep school,’ and I thought, ‘Man, whoever gets him is lucky.’ It’s awesome to watch him now.”

While Goff has established himself as the Detroit Lions’ leader, Warren has been working to make a name for himself at Michigan. The two have stayed in touch over the years, and Goff has continued to support Warren’s progress.

“We text back and forth sometimes,” Goff said. “It’s cool that we’re both in the same state now, representing our teams. I’m rooting for him, he’s a good guy and I support him.”

Goff’s belief in Warren is evident, and as both California natives chase their football dreams, it’s clear their bond is built on mutual respect and shared principles. With Goff backing him, Warren has a strong mentor guiding him as he continues his journey at Michigan.
