The Texans defeated the Cowboys so decisively that Dak Prescott was in tears after the game.
The Houston Texans made a statement on Monday Night Football by decisively defeating the Dallas Cowboys, securing their place as the top NFL team in Texas for at least the next two years, and potentially four.
This dominant win pushed the Texans to a 7-4 record, while the Cowboys were left with a disappointing 3-7 mark, effectively squashing any hopes of a playoff berth.
Although Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott didn’t play in the game due to injury, he admitted to The Dallas Morning News that watching his team get thoroughly beaten by the Texans brought him to tears.
Prescott shared, “The other day, after the game, I guess, it all just hit me. Boom, right? A couple of tears came down.
This is going to hurt, it’s going to suck at times. You just have to understand this is one of the moments that it does. I don’t want anything right now other than to let it suck.”
It’s important to clarify that no one is mocking Prescott for showing emotion—such responses are human.
Instead, the focus is on how thoroughly the Texans outplayed the Cowboys, making this season a particularly difficult one for Dallas fans.
Though the Texans and Cowboys don’t meet often due to Houston being in the AFC and Dallas in the NFC, when they do face off, it’s always a high-stakes battle for Texas supremacy.
This victory marked the first time the Texans had beaten the Cowboys since a 2018 overtime win. Prior to that, the Cowboys had dominated the series, winning three consecutive matchups.
However, Houston did manage to win the very first meeting between the two teams back in 2002, during the Texans’ inaugural season.
The Texans’ recent win narrowed the Cowboys’ series lead to 4-3, and with Houston trending upward while Dallas struggles, there’s a chance the Texans could even the score in future meetings.
All in all, it’s been a rough season for the Cowboys, and Prescott’s emotional response underscores the frustration of the situation.
With him out for the rest of the season due to injury and the team showing little fight on the field, the Texans took full advantage, dominating the fourth quarter and clinching a 24-point
victory.
