Amik Robertson of the Detroit Lions Shares Blunt Take on Self-Improvement

Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson recently opened up about his growth and the areas he feels he needs to improve in.

During an interview with Justin Rogers of the Detroit Lions Network and Will Burchfield of 97.1

The Ticket, Robertson was blunt and candid, offering an unfiltered response to the question of how he can further develop his game as a cornerback in the NFL.

When asked to reflect on his performance after transitioning to playing outside cornerback, Robertson acknowledged the complexity of the position in the league. He expressed that while he recognizes his progress, there’s always room for improvement.

According to Robertson, playing cornerback at a high level requires constant evolution, as each week brings new challenges.

He explained that even when mistakes happen during practice, he strives to correct them and avoid repeating them in games.

In his own words, Robertson said, “I’m an open book,” emphasizing that he’s always open to learning and improving.

He also shared his awareness of the scrutiny cornerbacks face in the NFL, explaining that despite making a significant number of successful plays, the one mistake often gets amplified. “You can make 1,000 great plays, but the one moment you mess up, everybody’s going to talk about that,” he said.

Robertson understands that this is part of the job, and it’s a reality he’s come to accept, which is why he keeps a level head and continues to push forward.

When pressed about the specific areas in which he felt he could improve, Robertson didn’t hold back.

Robertson explained that as a cornerback, chances to make a game-changing interception may not come frequently, so when they do, he must seize them.

His mindset is on continuing to chase those opportunities with intensity, emphasizing that taking advantage of these moments is essential to his development.

The conversation then turned to Robertson’s thoughts on interceptions and how different coverage schemes impact his ability to make plays. He expressed a preference for zone coverage when it comes to making interceptions.

In zone, cornerbacks have their eyes on the quarterback, which Robertson believes makes it easier to read the play and make a play on the ball.

He noted that some of his past interceptions have come from deep passes, where the quarterback believed he had a favorable matchup. However, he also acknowledged the difficulty of playing man-to-man coverage.

When in man coverage, the cornerback’s focus is primarily on the receiver, and they must be able to quickly turn their head and track the ball.

This, Robertson said, can be challenging, which is why not every cornerback is able to make plays in man coverage the same way they would in zone.

Robertson’s determination to improve is evident as he prepares for the upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings.

He’ll have another opportunity to demonstrate his skills and further solidify his role on the team.

Robertson is determined to continue his development as a cornerback and make the most of every opportunity he gets on the field.

As the season progresses, many are expecting Robertson to step up and contribute in a significant way.

With his drive to improve and his focus on seizing key moments, it’s possible that he could make a game-changing play in the near future.

As fans and analysts alike look ahead to the Lions’ matchups, there’s growing optimism that Robertson will have a huge impact, especially against teams like the Vikings.

In conclusion, Amik Robertson’s journey in the NFL has been one of continuous growth and self-awareness. While he’s had his share of success, he remains focused on his goal of becoming even better.

His candid remarks about his performance and his desire to make more plays on the ball demonstrate the hunger and determination he brings to his game.

With each challenge and opportunity, Robertson is committed to improving and evolving as a top-tier cornerback for the Detroit Lions.
