Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is actively searching for a new offensive coordinator following Ben Johnson’s departure to become the Chicago Bears’ head coach. Campbell emphasizes the importance of maintaining the team’s established identity and culture, stating, ”I want what I believe is going to be as close to what we have been as possible. We don’t lose what we’re about and our identity.”
Potential internal candidates include assistant head coach and running backs coach Scottie Montgomery, passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, and receivers coach Antwaan Randle El.
Campbell is also open to external options but insists that any new hire must align with the Lions’ existing philosophy. He plans to involve quarterback Jared Goff in the selection process to ensure continuity in the offensive strategy.
Despite the coaching changes, Campbell remains confident in the team’s resilience, asserting that the Lions will return “stronger” next season.
The organization is committed to finding a suitable replacement who can uphold the offensive success achieved under Johnson’s leadership.
