Zach Ertz reveals honest feelings about joining the Commanders

The Washington Commanders have been the surprise story of the 2025 NFL playoffs. After sneaking into the postseason as the second-to-last seed, they’ve triumphed over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions to reach the NFC Championship Game, where they’ll face their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Adding to the drama is tight end Zach Ertz, who has experienced a career resurgence in Washington this year after his prime days in Philadelphia seemed behind him. Ertz has hauled in 66 receptions for 654 yards and seven touchdowns.

When Ertz signed a one-year contract with the Commanders in March, his goal was clear.

“I just wanted a chance to show that I’m still the same player,” Ertz shared.

During this journey, Ertz rediscovered his deep passion for the game of football.

“It was really a chance for me to fall back in love with the game, enjoy the process again, and be surrounded by people who know how to use me and let me perform at my best,” Ertz said. “It’s been so much fun. It’s surpassed all my expectations. Having a quarterback like Jayden [Daniels] has made a huge difference with his humility and growth mindset.”

Ertz now has the opportunity to return to the Super Bowl with a win over his former team on Sunday.

Zach Ertz defended Jayden Daniels against Lions

Commanders tight end Zach Ertz didn’t hesitate to express his displeasure with Lions defensive end Josh Paschal after a questionable hit on quarterback Jayden Daniels.

“Hey! You don’t do that s— to my guy. Don’t do that s— to my guy. You ain’t s— for that!” Ertz shouted at Paschal.

Ertz offers the Commanders valuable veteran leadership, which includes standing up for his teammates when needed.
