Lions Recommended to Look for Low-Key Cornerback to Replace Carlton Davis

The Detroit Lions made significant investments in the cornerback position during the 2024 NFL offseason.

They signed Amik Robertson to a two-year contract.

They traded with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to acquire Carlton Davis.

Then, the Lions used their first two picks in the previous draft on corners, selecting Alabama’s Terrion Arnold and Missouri’s Ennis Rakestraw Jr.

Despite these efforts, the Lions find themselves in need of another upgrade at the position for the 2025 offseason.

Davis’ contract has expired, and neither of the rookies proved themselves as reliable options in their first year.

With uncertainty surrounding the position, one writer suggests the team should target a free agent who has flown under the radar early this offseason.

In an article discussing free agents each NFL team should pursue, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani recommended the Lions go after New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo.

Although Adebo hasn’t received as much attention as Davis or Jets cornerback D.J. Reed, he could be worth considering.

Adebo only played seven games in 2024 due to a broken femur, but he was having a standout season before the injury.

In his seven games, Adebo registered 52 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 passes defended. During his last full season, Adebo recorded 76 tackles, four interceptions, and 18 passes defended.

He also limited opposing quarterbacks to a 55% completion rate in 2023.

Adebo’s ability to tackle and his coverage skills make him a strong fit for the Lions’ secondary, and his price may be lower than expected due to the injury halting his breakout season.
