3 Potential Trades the Lakers Should Consider to Support Luka Doncic

3 Additional Trades the Lakers Could Make to Build Around Luka Doncic

The Los Angeles Lakers stunned the NBA world by pulling off a huge trade over the weekend, acquiring Luka Doncic in exchange for Anthony Davis. While fans are still processing the trade, the Lakers front office must act quickly to make further moves. With the trade deadline on February 6, the Lakers urgently need to complete their roster.

Following Davis’ exit, the Lakers now face a significant gap in the frontcourt. They must secure at least one solid center and add players that complement Doncic and LeBron James. The following three moves would address these needs.

Walker Kessler

The Lakers still have their 2031 first-round pick available after using it in the trade for Luka Doncic. This pick is now their most valuable asset leading up to the trade deadline. A first-round pick with no protections can be a game-changer in the Lakers’ trade talks.

One player the Lakers should prioritize in these discussions is Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz.

The 23-year-old center would be an ideal fit for a team centered around Luka Doncic and LeBron James. Kessler offers a solid lob threat and rim protection, both of which are crucial for this new-look Lakers squad. Additionally, he fits the team’s future plans.

The Lakers could acquire Kessler by trading their first-round pick. Since Kessler is still on a cost-effective rookie contract, the Lakers wouldn’t need to move a major salary. A player on a minimum deal, like Christian Wood, could be enough to get the trade done.
