Lakers Reportedly Pursuing Rockets Center
As the trade deadline on Thursday approaches, Rob Pelinka and his team are diligently working behind the scenes to acquire more talent.
According to Sam Amick, the Lakers are targeting Houston Rockets center Steven Adams, who is currently on an expiring contract worth $12.6 million.
“League sources say the Lakers have had talks with Houston about 31-year-old big man Steven Adams. While the two sides are significantly apart and there’s no indication that a deal will be completed, these discussions provide insight into Pelinka’s intentions,” Amick reported via NBACentral.
Adams has played 34 games this season, averaging 3.8 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 58.1 percent from the field.
This is Adams’ first healthy season with the Rockets, and it could very well be his last. He is a dependable center who could provide solid bench help for any team.
Amick also emphasized that the Lakers may not secure Adams due to significant differences in negotiations.
Nonetheless, this pursuit highlights the Lakers’ commitment to strengthening their frontcourt, which has become even more pressing following the loss of Anthony Davis.
With the additions of Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and other key players, the Lakers need to fill the gap in their frontcourt to improve their chances in the postseason.
While Adams may not be the answer, the Lakers are clearly working hard to find a reliable, affordable, and healthy center before Thursday’s deadline. What decision will they make?
