“Hudson & Rex” Renewed for Season 6, Beta Film Includes New Season in MipTV Lineup

Season 6 of the Canadian police drama “Hudson & Rex,” one of the most successful TV brands globally, has officially been approved. The new season is part of the sales portfolio for Beta Film, which will present it at the MipTV television conference and market in Cannes next week.

Diesel, the German Shepherd who stars as Rex in the show, will make an appearance on the pink carpet at the Canneseries TV festival on Sunday, held alongside MipTV. He will be accompanied by John Reardon, who portrays Detective Charlie Hudson. The duo will showcase the French premiere of the first episode of Season 4, followed by a Q&A session.

“Hudson & Rex,” a production of Shaftesbury and Pope Productions for Citytv, first aired in Austria in the 1990s under the title “Rex, the Cop’s Best Friend.” It is one of Beta’s top-performing series, having been sold to over 100 territories around the world.

A new addition to the lineup is “I Am Scrooge,” based on the extraordinary true story of a department store extortionist in late 1980s Germany. Operating under the alias Scrooge McDuck, Arno Funke became a global media sensation, known as the “DuckTales Bandit” by The New Yorker.

Other Beta shows revealing new seasons include ITV’s period drama “Hotel Portofino,” starring Natascha McElhone (“Ronin,” “Californication,” “Halo”), which takes place on the Italian Riviera in the 1920s and is preparing for its third season.

Season three of “The Sea Beyond” will have its international premiere on Monday at MipTV. The Italian series has been a huge success domestically, with over 100 million digital views and consistent high ratings on Rai2, the RaiPlay streaming service, and Netflix.

Beta also represents 160 hours of the German crime classic “Tatort,” which consistently achieves record ratings of over 40% market share on German public broadcaster ARD.
