Dallas Cowboys 2025 Draft Profile: A Closer Look at Arizona State Running Back Cam Skattebo

Skattebo: A Versatile and Tough Running Back

Receiving Ability

Skattebo stands out as a premier receiving threat among running backs. Only two players at his position recorded more receiving yards last season, and he led all running backs in yards gained after the catch. For three consecutive seasons, he has surpassed 250 receiving yards while displaying dependable hands. While some running backs in this class may run routes with more finesse, Skattebo is arguably the most explosive pass-catching option.

Blocking

There are no concerns about Skattebo’s blocking skills. Given his aggressive running style, it’s no surprise that he embraces blocking responsibilities as well. Arizona State occasionally utilized him as a fullback for added versatility. Across two seasons with the Sun Devils, he allowed only five pressures in pass-blocking situations and never surrendered a sack.

Athleticism

Skattebo may not possess elite athleticism, but he is far from slow. While his top-end speed isn’t exceptional, his physicality compensates for it, allowing him to power through defenders. That said, scouts will be eager to see him post at least an average 40-yard dash time to solidify his draft stock.

Football IQ and Decision-Making

His game is defined by sharp vision and patience, allowing him to read defenses before making decisive moves. In pass protection, he demonstrates strong awareness, adapting quickly to changing situations. Despite playing under four different play-callers during his college career, his performance remained consistently strong.

Leadership and Durability

Skattebo embodies toughness and old-school grit while still having enough agility to thrive in modern offenses. He was a key leader for the Sun Devils during their impressive 11-win season. The main concern surrounding him is durability—his 1,130 career carries could lead to a shorter NFL career. However, he has proactively adjusted his training and weight management to prepare for the demands of professional football.
