LA Rams announce they have re signed ex Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford to a restructured deal

After weeks of trade speculation, quarterback Matthew Stafford is set to return to the Los Angeles Rams. Stafford had two years remaining on the extension he signed in 2022, which followed his pivotal role in leading the team to a Super Bowl victory.

There were rumors about potential interest from the Steelers in the veteran quarterback, but it seems Stafford’s agents were using the market to secure a better deal for the 37-year-old. He was scheduled to earn $23 million in salary this coming season. The terms of his new contract have yet to be disclosed.

This announcement signals that quarterback-needy teams may act more quickly to secure their preferred signal-caller. This could have a ripple effect across the league.

Quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are still free agents, with both Art Rooney II and GM Omar Khan publicly expressing a desire for at least one of them to stay with their respective teams.
