BYU Sweeps Big 12 Gymnastics Weekly Honors
ylie Eaquinto (gymnast), Brynlee Andersen (event specialist), and Deb Silva (newcomer) were recognized with Big 12 gymnastics awards after BYU’s Conference win over Arizona State at home.
Eaquinto earned second place in the all-around with a score of 39.300. She began her competition with a 9.825 on vault, tying for second place. The Orem, Utah native also scored 9.850 on bars, which tied for second. Eaquinto concluded her meet with a season-high 9.925 on floor, marking BYU’s top score of the season in that event. BYU triumphed over the Sun Devils, achieving a season-high team score of 196.775 across vault, floor, and overall. This is Eaquinto’s first award of the season and her second career honor, following her recognition as Event Specialist of the Year for the 2024 season.
Andersen topped the BYU beam lineup, posting a team-high 9.925 in the event. This marks the sixth time this season she has scored 9.900 or better. Her performance earned her the event win and matched the highest score recorded in any event, tying Eaquinto’s winning floor score.
Silva achieved a career-high score of 9.875 on vault. Competing in the vault lineup in nearly every meet, the freshman from Lindon, Utah helped the Cougars to a season-high 49.175 in the event. Her performance secured the event win during BYU’s final home meet at the Marriott Center. Silva is the first Cougar to receive Newcomer of the Week honors this season.
