Detroit Lions

Amon-Ra St. Brown revealed Detroit was the team he didn’t want to go to initially.

The Detroit Lions’ 2021 NFL Draft was a huge success. That year’s draft class included two All-Pros, with Amon-Ra St. Brown leading the way. Several other players, such as Derrick Barnes, Levi Onwuzurike, Alim McNeil, and Ifeatu Melifonwu, were also chosen and have contributed significantly over the past few seasons.

Interestingly, one of the stars from that class didn’t actually want to be drafted by Detroit. During a recent episode of the “St. Brown Podcast,” St. Brown revealed that, 20 minutes before he was selected, he told his brother that the Lions were the one team he hoped to avoid.

“I told my brother, 20 minutes before I got drafted, the one team I didn’t want to go to was Detroit.” While it wasn’t his ideal destination initially, getting drafted by the Lions has turned out to be a great opportunity for St. Brown.

In his four seasons in Detroit, he has amassed 430 receptions for 4851 yards and 33 touchdowns. These impressive stats have earned him three Pro Bowl selections and two consecutive First-Team All-Pro honors.

St. Brown also secured a four-year contract extension worth over $120 million, keeping him in Detroit through 2028. The Lions have also made considerable strides since drafting St. Brown.

They won only five games in the year before his draft and just three during his rookie season.

However, last year, the team won 15 games, building a strong core that should keep them competitive for years to come.

It’s a good thing they used that fourth-round pick on a receiver who initially didn’t want to join them.
