The Lions have agreed to sign Roy Lopez, the former defensive tackle of the Cardinals.
On Tuesday, multiple reports confirmed that the Lions have reached a one-year agreement with former Arizona Cardinals nose tackle Roy Lopez. The deal is reportedly valued at $4.65 million.
Lopez has appeared in 63 games with 50 starts during his four NFL seasons. He entered the league as a sixth-round pick of the Texans in the 2021 draft and played two years in Houston before joining Arizona for the past two seasons.
Over his career, Lopez has recorded 137 combined tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and three sacks. In the previous season, he had one sack, three passes defensed, and four tackles for loss. As a nose tackle, he earned a 54.9 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus for his 2024 performance.
Lopez showed limited pass-rush production with 18 pressures last season. He has played in at least 16 games in three of his four seasons, with the only exception being in 2023, when he appeared in 14 games.
The Lions have DJ Reader returning at nose tackle for the 2025 season. Reader is in the final year of a two-year contract he signed last year in free agency. In his first year with the Lions, Reader registered 23 combined tackles and three sacks.
Defensive tackle Alim McNeill suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 15, and his availability for the start of the 2025 season remains uncertain. The addition of Lopez offers some depth in case McNeill is unable to play early next season.
Additionally, the Lions have Brodric Martin at nose tackle. Martin, a third-round pick in 2023, has yet to make a notable impact in his first two seasons and was considered a developmental pick when drafted.
The Lions also re-signed restricted free agent Myles Adams to a one-year deal.
