KIPP St. Louis announces Nathalie Henderson as its new leader.

KIPP St. Louis, one of the city’s largest charter school networks, has appointed Nathalie Henderson as its new chief executive officer.

She will assume the role following the departure of longtime Executive Director Kelly Garrett, who is stepping down in June. Henderson is set to begin her tenure in July.

“I firmly believe in education’s ability to change lives and am dedicated to ensuring that every KIPP student has the chance to achieve their dreams,” Henderson stated. “I look forward to collaborating with educators, students, and families to further KIPP’s mission.”

Henderson currently serves as the Executive Vice President for Corps Member and Alumni Leadership Development at Teach For America. Previously, she worked as Chief Schools Officer for Indianapolis Public Schools and Area Superintendent for Fulton County Public Schools in Atlanta.

Her background also includes 12 years in St. Louis Public Schools, where she worked as a special education teacher and held various school leadership positions.

“Dr. Henderson’s deep experience in K-12 education, her strong ties to the St. Louis community, and her steadfast commitment to student success make her the perfect leader to continue advancing KIPP St. Louis and supporting student achievement,” said David Lemkemeier, Chair of the KIPP St. Louis Board of Directors.

KIPP St. Louis operates six charter schools in the city, serving more than 2,000 students.

Charter schools are publicly funded but privately managed institutions.

KIPP St. Louis is currently facing a wrongful termination lawsuit from Rayven Calloway, a former principal at KIPP St. Louis High School who was dismissed in January. Calloway claims she was fired after voicing concerns about safety, security, and financial issues at the school.

“At KIPP St. Louis, we take all personnel matters seriously and make decisions with the best interests of students and the community in mind,” Garrett stated following the lawsuit. “We remain dedicated to providing a safe and effective learning environment for all students.”
