Lakers NBA

Luka Doncic shares his thoughts on what the Lakers must do to regain their winning form.

The Los Angeles Lakers find themselves in the midst of another rough patch, suffering their third straight defeat after falling 118-106 to the Orlando Magic on Monday night. What’s most alarming is that all three losses have been by double digits, with two of them occurring despite LeBron James’ return to the lineup following a seven-game absence due to a groin injury.

Even head coach JJ Redick acknowledged that the Lakers are currently experiencing a slump, something they must address soon, as their playoff positioning remains at stake. According to Luka Dončić, the team needs to revisit the formula that led to their eight-game winning streak a few weeks ago and avoid becoming complacent.

“I think we just need to reflect on how we played during that eight-game winning streak. We were physical, and our defense was incredible. I believe we got a bit too comfortable, which we simply can’t afford right now,” Dončić stated in his postgame interview with Spectrum SportsNet on X (formerly Twitter).

The Lakers showed glimpses of their dominant form from earlier in the season during the first half against the Magic. However, they once again struggled defensively in the second half, much like they did during their recent 31-point loss to the Chicago Bulls. For Dončić, maintaining the intensity they displayed in the opening half will be crucial moving forward.

“The way we played in the first half, we need to play like that for the entire game. It can’t just be for 24 minutes—it has to be for all 48,” Dončić added.
