Russell Breaks His Silence After Opting for the Giants Instead of the Browns.

Another veteran quarterback option was removed from the Cleveland Browns’ radar on Tuesday, as Russell Wilson agreed to a deal with the New York Giants.

The 10-time Pro Bowler will sign a one-year contract worth $10.5 million with the Giants. He could earn up to $21 million based on incentives, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wilson is expected to be the starting quarterback in New York.

Shortly after the news broke, Wilson took to social media to announce the move officially.

“Been here before… can’t wait to do it again,” Wilson said, referring to his 2014 Super Bowl victory with the Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium — the home stadium of the Giants.

Wilson’s first free-agent meeting was with the Browns. After leaving without a deal, he met with the Giants. Myles Garrett, who recently signed a massive extension, was part of the recruiting effort.

“I mean, him and I had some conversations at the Pro Bowl and here, and I definitely think he’d be a great asset as a leader and mentor to the young guys,” Garrett said. “Veteran leadership is crucial, and I think he’s still got a lot left at the position. He has plenty of arm strength and is very smart, knowing what he’s capable of. He’d be a valuable addition.”

Browns Shift Focus to QB Sadly for the Browns, they will need to seek that veteran leadership elsewhere. Wilson joins the Giants’ roster along with former Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, who agreed to a deal with the team earlier in the weekend.

The only healthy quarterback on the Browns roster is Kenny Pickett. The Browns traded for Pickett before free agency started, acquiring him from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com provided several options for the team, including Carson Wentz, Joe Flacco, and Kirk Cousins.

“The Browns may now focus on Carson Wentz or Joe Flacco as their bridge quarterback. A source told cleveland.com last week that the Browns and Wentz ‘definitely have mutual interest’ and that it depended on Wilson’s decision,” Cabot said. “The Browns have also been eyeing Falcons backup Kirk Cousins, who might waive his no-trade clause after the draft on April 24-26.”

Browns Likely to Select Young QB The Browns hold the No. 2 overall pick and are expected to draft a quarterback. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the top prospects, with Ward widely expected to go No. 1 overall, making Sanders the more likely choice for Cleveland.

During his interview at the NFL Combine, Sanders expressed confidence in his ability to turn the Browns around after their 3-14 season.

“I’m able to adapt to any offense and scheme and make it work. We turned around two programs back-to-back, from Jackson State to Colorado. So, you don’t think I could come to an NFL franchise and change it again?” Sanders said. “History repeats, and I’ve done it over and over again.”

If the Browns don’t take a quarterback with their No. 2 pick, they might search for a gem later in the draft. Jaxson Dart and Jalen Milroe are potential options for the later rounds.
