LSU Men’s Basketball Adds Another Key Player Through the Transfer Portal

LSU Men’s Basketball Makes Another Move in the Transfer Portal

Matt McMahon and the LSU Tigers Men’s Basketball team have been on fire to begin the transfer portal season. On Wednesday, they received their third commitment, adding former Northeastern guard Rashad King.

King, a seasoned three-year player, truly emerged during the 2024-2025 season. The junior averaged 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game for the Huskies before deciding to enter the transfer portal. After discussions with several teams, King ultimately committed to LSU.

King earned First-Team All-CAA honors and claimed three CAA Player of the Week awards this past season. He played 36.5 minutes per game on average, led his team in scoring, and shot 44.9% from the field and 31.9% from beyond the arc.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and 204 pounds, King brings impressive size for a guard. LSU struggled with wing size last season, and now they have a player who can shoot from long range or drive to the basket.

King’s standout performance of the season came in a game against Hampton, where he scored 32 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He also contributed six rebounds and two assists in the win.

LSU has now secured three top-100 transfers, according to 247 Sports: Dedan Thomas Jr. (8th), Rashad King (79th), and Michael Nwoko (81st).

LSU’s administration promised increased NIL support for Matt McMahon this year, and it’s clear he’s already benefiting. The Tigers currently boast the No. 1 portal class in the nation, according to 247’s rankings.

It’s a fresh start for LSU Men’s Basketball. Matt McMahon’s fourth year is a pivotal one, and he’s fully committed to securing the team’s first tournament berth in Baton Rouge.
