Robert Wright visits BYU with lucrative $3.5 million NIL offer on the table

Top guard transfer Robert Wright visits BYU amid $3.5 million NIL buzz

Former Baylor point guard Robert Wright III officially visited BYU on Friday. The ex-five-star recruit, who entered the transfer portal Monday, has been tied to the Cougars early on. Could he be the replacement for Egor Demin? “Not yet, but the chances are strong,” a source shared with Athlon.

The 6-foot-1 playmaker reportedly gave BYU a ‘verbal commitment’ Thursday, but he has yet to finalize the decision.

Wright stands as BYU’s primary transfer target. Much like Demin, he’s expected to chase an NBA career after just one season. The Cougars are already familiar with his talent—he dropped 22 points during Baylor’s overtime loss to BYU last year. He made the Big 12 All-Freshman team after averaging 11.5 points and 4.2 assists per contest.

“Wright has always been a natural floor general. We recognized his leadership back in his high school underclassman years,” said 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein. “In a Baylor season full of injuries, he was the consistent leader. He claimed the starting point guard role—pushing grad transfer Jeremy Roach to the bench—and brought steady, veteran-like play almost every game.”

Out of Montverde Academy in Florida, Wright was rated the nation’s top prospect by 247Sports. He chose Baylor over more than 15 schools, most hailing from the ACC.

At his next school, Wright will retain three years of eligibility.
